Age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 21, 2024. John was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 11, 1937, the son of the late Nicholas and Rose Marie (Baker) Breedveld. On March 22, 1957, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Ann VanderMolen, who preceded him in death on June 5, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Judson Breedveld and sister, Zarlene Main. John had a life-long career in sales. He started in the retail shoe business, owning and operating his own shoe store, worked as a sales representative for C.W. Mills Office Supply and ended his career as a sales representative for Christian Book Stores. John had a strong faith that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He served his church, Texas Corners Bible Church, in many capacities, including through its Audio Ministry, editing hundreds of sermons for local radio stations, eventually expanding the ministry nationwide. John loved his family and cherished spending time with them, especially in his later years. He is survived by his children, Kay (Mike) Ruiter, Kathy (Doug) DeRoo, Sally (Tom) Herder and Stefanie (James) Eskut; grandchildren, Julie (John) Chasnis, Kimberly (Brian) Stewart, Michelle (Josh) Favorite, Trevor DeRoo, Travis DeRoo, Steven (Kelli) Herder, Jennifer Herder, Ryan Herder, Jeremy Eskut, Kaitlin (Patrick) Sullivan and Brittanie (Daniel) Pando; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joan Ruiter, JoLynne DeWinter, Joel Breedveld and Nick J. Breedveld. A memorial service to celebrate John’s life and honor his faith will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at Texas Corners Bible Church, 7780 S. 8th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009, with Pastor David Thompson officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the church, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries (Donate Here).
