John (Jack) Aaron Brewer, age 99, of Mountain Island Lake, Huntersville North Carolina, passed away at home on October 14th, 2025, from natural causes.
Jack was born on a red-dirt farm in the Cedar Hill community of Anson County, North Carolina on July 2nd, 1926, to John C. and Lydia Brewer. He joined the US Navy during World War II when he turned 17 and served on an LST in the South Pacific. At the end of the war, he attended the American Institute of Banking, Edwards School of Banking at LSU and began a career as a Bank Officer.
On July 2, 1950, Jack married Evelyn Avera of Orlando, Florida and they began their family, having three sons. He was devoted to his family and his community. While serving as a Loan Officer at the Bank of Melbourne (Florida), he also served as the town's Mayor.
The Piedmont of North Carolina had a stronger appeal than the sandy beaches of Florida, and Jack moved his family back to the Tar Hill State where he became a distinguished distributor for the Hedman Company specializing in business machines for the financial industry. He grew his business and enjoyed great success traveling throughout much of the world.
Always active, he was an avid outdoorsman training championship bird-dogs and raising Tennessee Walking Horses. He also loved fishing with his friends Bill Kelly (brother-in-law) and Reid Daniels.
In 2000 his beloved Evelyn suffered a debilitating stroke. Jack became her primary care giver and by dint of personal strength, he was able to keep her home and provide for her care. The two of them were able to be together and enjoy each other's company. Jack would go through a rather laborious process to take her out for ice cream almost every day for the five years that she survived the stroke.
Never slowing down Jack found new horizons even in his advancing years. He was a lover of books and constant learner. He embraced the technology of our times as he texted his grocery lists, home maintenance instructions and social exchanges to and with his friends and family.
Jack's life was full of family and friends. He would later reconnect with childhood friend Carolyn (McBride) Latham. They enjoyed and enriched each other's life for 20 years.
Among his last words were, "Tell everybody I had a great life."
He is survived by his sons John Aaron Brewer Jr of Colorado, Rev. Michael David Brewer and wife Ellen of Social Circle Ga., Ralph Christopher Brewer and wife Margaret of Mountain Island Lake NC.; Sisters Gladys Brewer Sandridge, Helen Brewer Lowe; 5 Grandchildren, and 5 Great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by Wife Evelyn Avera Brewer, Father and Mother John C. Brewer and Lydia Brewer, Brothers and Sister Earl Brewer, Cecil Brewer, Ray Brewer, Charles Brewer, Pearl Brewer Gray, Greg Brewer, Bill Brewer.
A Memorial Service will be held at Concord UMC in Wadesboro NC on October 16, 2025.
Arrangements are in the care of James Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC.
