John E. Brewington was born on November 27, 1944, to George and Wanda Mourer Brewington. John was a true hard-working man. In October of 1962 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country in Vietnam. He spent time in Danang, Vietnam where he was a boatswain mate transporting troops and picking up the wounded. After returning from military service, he worked for his father's trenching business. He then began spending his evenings at John Deere Ottumwa Works and his days roofing houses. Eventually, he founded Brewington and Son's Concrete, a business he proudly ran until his retirement at the age of 75.

A lifelong member of VFW and the American Legion, he served as Commander for several years. His commitment wasn't just limited to his work; he was also a volunteer firefighter for the Batavia Fire Department for over 50 years, a 53-year Mason, and spent 52 years with the Shriners. Yet, despite his many commitments, John always made time for what mattered most to him: his family.

John's love for family and community wasn't just evident in his work, but also in the way he enjoyed life. He loved spending time in his park, attending parades with the Shriners, and cherishing moments with his grandchildren. He always enjoyed a good drink with good conversation. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Brewington; a sister, Arlene Davison and a brother and sister in infancy, Rex and Ruth Ann, as well as a grandson, Ryan Brewington (2014).

Left to honor his memory is his wife, Patty Brewington; two sons, Keith Brewington of Fairfield, IA and Curtis (LuAnn) Brewington of Clinton, IA; two stepchildren, Josh Langford (Amanda Williams) of Marshalltown, IA and Amy (Jason) Marlow of Bloomfield, IA; three grandchildren, Josh Brewington, Kyle (Haley) Brewington, and Keeley (Becca) Brewington; five great grandchildren, Emma, Nellie, Booker, Forbes, and Millie; a brother Kenneth (Gaye) Brewington of Wisconsin; two sisters, Joan (Earl) Barnett of Texas and Alice (Chuck) Dyer of Oregan, as well as many extended family and friends.
