Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Johnny Bronson "J. T." Thornton, age 79 of Harper House Road passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral Services will be 2:00PM Monday, November 17, 2025 in the Mill Creek Christian Church Cemetery in Four Oaks. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 1:45PM on Monday, November 17, 2025 at Mill Creek Christian Church in Four Oaks prior to the graveside service and other times at the home.
Mr. Thornton was born on February 17, 1946 in Johnston County to the late Milford B. and Louise Harris Thornton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sam Thornton; and sisters, Blondie Burnett and Mary Lunette Wells; brothers, Carrie Glenn Thornton and Dewey Thornton; and the mother of his children, Janice Norris Thornton. Mr. Thornton retried from textiles and as a truck driver. He enjoyed spending his time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He would help his local communities cooking chickens and pigs for their fall fundraisers. Mr. Thornton was a retired volunteer fireman with the Bentonville Volunteer Fire Department. He also a US Army Veteran serving in the United States Army.
Survivors include his son, Rodney Thornton and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Maddison Thornton, and Kinzie Thornton; brothers, Billy Thornton, Bobby Thornton and wife, Joann; Floyd Thornton and wife, Shirley, Tony Thornton and wife, Carolyn; special niece and nephew, Austin Ezzell and McKayla Shikany; many other nieces and nephews; special friends, Eugene Joyner and the late J. W. Jernigan.
In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
