John Robert Burkert

1937 - 2025

John Robert Burkert, 88, of Butler, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.
John was born in Zelienople on Sept. 19, 1937, and was the son of his late parents, William Burkert and Mary Jane (Keefer) Burkert. He married his wife of 68 years, Lillian Mary (Rice) Burkert, on June 1, 1957.
John worked as an engineer for 40 years until his retirement in 2000. After retirement, he continued to utilize his engineering/drafting skills well into his 80s, which brought him enormous enjoyment.
He was passionate about outdoor activities such as hunting, camping and golfing, enjoyed playing cards and spending time traveling in his motorhome with his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as five years spent in Florida living the life.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his five children, Sherry (Kevin) McGahan, Cindy (William) Sye, Jeffrey (Lynn) Burkert, Todd (Laurie) Burkert and Beth (Charles) Van Buren; grandfather to 15 grandchildren, Kelly, Daniel, Tonya, Ashley, Dustin (Stephanie), John (Mindy), Joshua (Jackee), Jeremiah (Tasha), Justin, Brandon and Braxton; great-grandfather to his 13 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, Amara, Saylor, Jacob (fiancée Cierra), James, Jonathan, Olivia, Lillian, Evelyn, Carter, Trey and Macey; an expected great-great-grandchild; and, his siblings, Patricia Judd, Amy (Burt) Davis, Terry (Bambi) Burkert and Iva (William) Ehrhart.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Christian (Butch) Burkert, Kenneth (Craig) Burkert and James (Jim) Burkert.
BURKERT - Per his wishes, no formal services will be held for John Robert Burkert, who died Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.
Arrangements were entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
