JOHN BURR, JR. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2013.
March 20, 1948 – February 21, 2013 John T. Burr died peacefully, surrounded by his family, early in the morning of February 22, 2013. He was a warm, generous man with superb artistic and musical talent, who was loved by all the many people who knew him in New Orleans. He was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, but as a child, moved with his parents to St Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His years in the Caribbean shaped his sense of color and design, and his love of music. He studied art in New York City, and though he had played guitar starting in his boyhood, he spent several years in Spain studying flamenco. He settled in New Orleans, where he performed music and made art that attracted wide attention. In his later years he made movies through his company Blue Iguana Pictures, and some of his short films became known world-wide through the Internet. He was unfailingly generous to a host of friends, many of whom are young artists and musicians currently building their careers in New Orleans. His home was always filled with laughter, and brilliant artistic and musical ideas. Though he battled a severe illness for several years, his joy and love of life never left him. He is survived by his wife Anne Monteleone Burr, and his daughter Catherine Tucker Burr, his father John Thayer Burr, his older brother Winthrop Ames Burr, his older sister Evelyn Thayer Brignoli, and his younger brother Timothy Fuller Burr. A memorial celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 25, at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME at 3:00 PM. Visitation from 1:30 until service time. John sends special thanks to Dr. Roy Weiner. Contributions to Tulane Cancer Center, 150 S. Liberty, NOLA 70112.
