John P. Carmody

John P. Carmody, 86, of Pittston, PA, formerly of Middletown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Wesley Village, Pittston, PA, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Walden, NY, on March 26, 1939, son of the late Joseph and Martha Hendrickson Carmody.

John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Lunney; daughter Lisa Algarin and her husband Rich of Scotchtown, NY; daughter Jennifer Krakosky and her husband Ken of Shavertown, PA; grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kiara and RJ Algarin and Megan, Mikayla and Ryan Krakosky.

John was a graduate of Walden High School Class of 1957. He enlisted in the US Army and proudly served from 1957-1960. After serving his country, he graduated from Orange County Community College. Upon graduation, he worked as a Sales Engineer at Spence Engineering, Walden, NY for 36 years until his retirement.

In retirement, John and Helen traveled extensively and enjoyed going to

Broadway shows. Despite being very active in retirement, John also enjoyed slowing down and spending time with his family, especially being "Pop" to his grandchildren. Whether it was random summer sleepovers, fishing trips, lunch dates, adventures at the beach, or just a trip to the candy store, he always made sure it was an unforgettable experience for his grandchildren.

At John's wishes the funeral services will be private at the convenience of his family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, Forty Fort, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to United Methodist Homes Foundation, 209 Roberts Road, Pittston, PA 18640, whose entire staff not only took incredible care of John during his time there but also forged many friendships with him which he and his family cherished.
