John Carrizal Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 8, 2025.
John Creole Carrizal was born in Dallas, Oregon on May 10, 1958 to John Carrizal and Patricia (McHenry) Carrizal. They lived in Wishram, WA, where John's father worked as a rail hand.

John was the second child to a family of six. John's family lived all over, including Goldendale, Toppenish, Union Gap, Klickitat, and even a couple years in Tulsa, OK. They found their lifetime home in Zillah Heights on the Morrison Farm, where John's dad was a lead irrigator for over 40 years.

John was a "wild one". He was not afraid. He enjoyed baseball, he was a pitcher at Parker School. He truly loved playing football at Wapato Middle School. He led the state that year for unassisted quarterback sacks as a defensive end. He loved those memories and encouraged his family to be active in sports.

He moved to Yakima as a teen to attend Davis High School. He worked at night as a janitor for the High School to help pay rent.

John met his future wife, Sandra Gardner, at a gathering of friends on a Friday night after school. They both attended Davis High, fell in love, and married after one year.

John's first job, that he loved so much, was at WA Fruit as a line mechanic. After 9 years, he moved to WA Beef, later to IBP in Tri-Cities.

After 13 years John and Sandra divorced. John briefly remarried and lived in Seattle for 8 years. He worked roof construction with his brother-in-law, Leonard Cartmell. He loved Seattle, all the while traveling down to Yakima to spend weekends with his son on the Zillah farm.

He returned to Yakima to help Sandra raise a "wild teenager", upon her request in 1999. He found a job at Mountain States Construction Co, later he settled down with Cintas (Crystal Linen) as a nightshift supervisor.

John was the son of a D-Day survivor. His childhood was "rough", but his father loved him and tried to do the best he knew how. John never let his past stop him from being a good person or a good father. He often said his faith in Christ is what kept him going through rough times.

His most memorable times were with his beloved wife Sandra, in his 1965 Ford Falcon, racing down Yakima Ave on Friday nights.

As a father he spent his spare time camping, fishing, skiing, sledding, shooting, swimming, exploring, boating, agate hunting, biking, or motorcycling with his son. Some of his most memorable times were enjoyed while walking the orchards at the family farm with his younger brothers and son.

John is preceded in death by his mother and father, his siblings: Virginia Carrizal, Patricia Quintana, Roy Carrizal, Mike Carrizal, Carmen Mckown, Christy Carrizal. He is survived by his son John P. Carrizal, his grandchildren Sandra (Sammy) Carrizal, Kristian Carrizal-Norris and Lucas Stewart.
