John G. Carter, Sr., "JC" entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Mr. Carter is the widower of Mrs. Virginia Carter; son of the late Mrs. Lillian Irene Jackson Carter and Rev. Theodore Marshall Carter; father of Kimberly Phillips Knighten (Reginald), Paula Carter, Lillian Ross (Dwayne), John Carter, Jr. (Ayanna), and Derrick Frank (Lisa); brother of Mrs. Harriett Sanders (Vernon-deceased), Mrs. Marsha Carter Johnson (Nathaniel "Nate"), the late Mrs. Jeanne Carter Gray and the late Mrs. Joan Dixon (Sylvester-deceased.) Wake services for Mr. Carter will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Smith Brothers Funeral Home (545 E. Mercury Blvd, Hampton). A memorial service will be held at the same location on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Mr. Carter was 85 years old and retired from the United States Air Force.
