John Tyler Clayton was born on October 14, 1936, to Frank A. Clayton Sr. and Susie Clayton. From an early age, he carried a quiet strength and steady determination that would define his life. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty, skill and responsibility.
After his military service, John began his career at Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Starting as an apprentice, he dedicated himself to mastering his craft, eventually becoming a respected Machinist and Electronics Systems Mechanic. Over 30 years of government service, he built not only a career, but a legacy of hard work, integrity, and perseverance.
In February 1992, John retired and chose to make El Paso, Texas his home. There, he embraced a slower pace of life while continuing to do what he did best — observe, reflect, create, and share his wisdom with those around him.
John lived a long and meaningful life. He was a wise man with a sharp mind and a gentle, often unexpected sense of humor. If you were fortunate enough to sit and listen, you would walk away having learned something — whether about life, history, mechanics, or simply how to see the world a little differently. He had a way of making you think, and sometimes laugh at the same time.
His insight, stories, reflections and steady presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he shared and the love he gave will remain with us always.
