John "Jack" Colcord, age 71, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, in Berlin Maryland.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Morris) Colcord. Jack was a beloved husband, devoted father, and dear friend to many. His greatest roles in life were those of husband and father. He was fiercely dedicated to his family, always putting them at the center of everything he did. With a fun-loving spirit and a heart full of kindness, Jack was known for his easy smile and warm greetings- he never met a stranger.
A passionate physical fitness enthusiast, Jack especially loved cycling. He turned that passion into a livelihood, running a successful bike rental business for over 25 years along the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. Beyond the boardwalk, Jack raced competitively on a national level, continuing to win gold through 2023.
He also shared a deep love of amusement parks with his wife Colleen and son Cannon. Some of their most joyful moments were spent together at Disney and Universal Studios, where Jack's playful spirit and sense of wonder shone brightly. Whether racing Cannon to the next ride or simply soaking in the magic of the parks, Jack embraced every experience with childlike joy and genuine enthusiasm.
Jack's energy, generosity, and love of life touched all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the countless memories shared with family, friends and the cycling community he loved so much.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Colleen Hahn Colcord, a son, Cannon Colcord, a brother, Michael Colcord (Laura) and two nephews, Max Colcord and Lex Colcord. He also leaves behind an extensive family of in-laws who adored him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Colcord and Richard Colcord.
Cremation followed his death. No formal services are planned at this time. Letters of condolence can be sent to the family via www.burbagefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are in the care of The Burbage Funeral Home. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of John "Jack", please visit our floral store.

Jack and I were good friends WAY back in Canandaigua NY when we used to paint houses during the day and play rugby on weekends. We moved to Virginia in 1975 to join our friend, Jim Warfel. So sorry I left touch with you over the last ten years or so.
Rest In Peace...see you on the other side one day!

i am a stranger to you but want give my condolences; in the 70's and 80's i was able to spend alot of time in Ocean City, and ride the boards on my old 10 speed. early on i spotted him at his bike stand at the hotel , Qualtiy Inn? i think on 15th street. He stood out from the crowd then, and later in the 90" i spent weekends at that very hotel and would always rent a bike from him. in a short time he knew who i was, we always had an easy conversation, mostly about business, whats going on in the city, etc. He stood out then, and continues be a stand out guy in my memories

Jack was a great man and I am thankful to have many wonderful memories of him. He was a very good friend to my family and example of fitness to all who knew him. My heart goes out to Colleen and Cannon and his whole family.

Let me start Colleen, Cannon, Michael and family by offering condolences for your loss. I am one of Jack´s Canandaigua friends and former Canandaigua Academy Braves track teammates - and also in the years that followed when we trained for and competed in A.A.U. competitions. The high level of physical fitness I believed him to hold makes it difficult for me to process his passing.

Along with our great friend Jim "Hippi" Warfel, Jack and I did all sorts of training runs and spent untold hours in weight rooms. We three pushed each other to be faster and stronger. I could push Jack in training and competitive races, and might be almost on his heels, but I never managed to beat him - not even once at any distance. It didn´t matter so much because even though I was finishing behind him, the effort to beat him pushed me to faster times. Jack was a high school record setting hurdler and sprinter. He was strong and fast. One last thing about Jack´s high school track days that anyone who watched him run either the 440-yard race or the 4 by 440-yard relay (the mile relay; I was often running against or with him) will remember is with his stylishly long, bright red hair and a bright sun behind him coming around the last curve it looked like his speed had his hair trailing hair aflame.

We also spent many years after Jack and Hippi graduated high school socializing at various bars and nightclubs near and far often with other friends. Jack was in his glory when the disco craze hit. He enjoyed the music and was a fabulous dancer with no shortage of aspiring dance partners. We also shared innumerable great times simply being together listen to music, telling stories, planning our next escapades and more while enjoying the hospitality of the Colcord and Warfel homes.

Sometime in our 30s were started to lose touch, partly due to distance and partly due to me settling into family life with my wife and children. We would meet every several years or so and the familiarity of friendship made for good times. The most recent was when Jack was home for his high school class´s 50th reunion. I was invited to join a group of his classmates Paul Marinello, and Alan Hicks) for a casual bike ride around Canandaigua Lake. I´m sure that the pace was very pedestrian for Jack who appeared to be the epitome of physical fitness even for someone half his age. We all had a great ride as we shared stories of new times, old times, and mutual friends.

Being two years younger than Jack I was sort of Robin to his Batman - even during that last bike ride together. Like all of his friends that I know, we will treasure our great memories of Jack. He is unforgettable. I am so very glad that I decided to join Jack on that lake ride in 2022, but I am very sad that there won´t be another.

I met Jack when I was working at Mussell & Fitness Gym, many years ago. I will always remember Jack for his sense of humor and wit! He was never at a loss for a comedic comeback for any conversation or situation, but he was always ready and willing to let me vent and share my woes! Of all the memories I have of him, the birthday cake he got for me for my 40th birthday, is what I always think of, when he comes to mind. Anyone who was at my 40th birthday party at Mussell and Fitness gym, (28 years ago), will know the cake I am referring to! God Speed, old friend! See you later!

I realized when I heard the sad news of Jack passing, I have known him close to 40 years. Of course, where else..the gym! Jack could have been my brother, love for the gym and always up for a good joke or a prank! I will miss him and wish I had gotten one more hug or laugh with him.
