It is with great love and sadness that we share the passing of John Edward Cordova,
55, of Orlando, Florida, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 8, 2025.
John was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Joseph and Frances Cordova on May 23, 1970.
He will be forever missed by his family, friends, and coworkers who knew and loved him.
John grew up in Valdosta, Georgia, and attended Valwood School, where he was active
in many activities. One of his favorite memories was traveling to Russia on a school trip
at the age of 16 - a journey that left a lifelong impression. The keepsakes he brought
home from that trip remain treasured family mementos.
Following in his father's footsteps, John attended the Georgia Institute of Technology
(Georgia Tech) and earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. After
graduation, he moved to Sterling, Virginia, and went on to complete a Master's degree
in Applied Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Throughout his career, John published four scientific articles; the most meaningful being
an article on imaging intracranial EEG electrodes using MRI for the treatment of
seizures.
His work in the IT and engineering fields was diverse and meaningful, often
requiring Secret clearance to support various government agencies. These
opportunities took him around the world - to China, Japan, Ireland, and beyond - where
he formed many lasting friendships. Most recently, John worked for The Walt Disney
Company in Orlando, FL where he found great joy and pride in his work and held deep
respect for his supervisor and "castmates."
Outside of his career, John lived life fully. He loved hunting and fishing, passions he
shared with his father from a young age. He enjoyed the beach, spending time with
family, riding his e-bike, and reading - especially his complete 60-volume set of The
Great Books of the Western World.
John will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sharp wit, and warm
smile. He was the person you could always count on - a loyal friend and a devoted
family member who showed up whenever someone needed help. He also had a deep
love for both the Chesapeake Bay and Tampa Bay, places that brought him peace and
happiness.
John is survived by his sister and brother, Fran Cordova Strauch and Jay Cordova; his
brother-in-law, Karl Strauch; his nieces, Taylor Strauch, Kelsie Strauch, and Greta
Cordova; his aunt, Joan Walker; and his stepmother, Patricia Seco Cordova.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Frances Cordova; his grandparents,
Jack and Frances Wiatt and Angie and Bob Lucas; and his uncle, Cliff Walker.
John's ashes will be scattered in Tampa Bay during a private family memorial service on
a boat - just as he wished.
John's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
