John Thomas "Butch" Costlow

Duffield, VA – John Thomas Costlow, 69, passed away on Tuesday March 10, 2026 at his home.
He was born in Johnstown, PA, lived in Kingsport for 13 years and had lived in Duffield for the past 13 years. "Butch", as he was affectionately known, was a construction worker by trade. He loved flea markets. He loved all kinds of wildlife and was known to befriend some of the wild critters. His love of nature was second to none. He was a fan of Mopar and riding motorcycles. Butch was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby (Bailey) Costlow, Sr. and brothers, James, Kevin and David.
Butch is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dollie (Adams) Costlow; children, Angela Tipton (James) of Duffield, VA, Dana Newsome of Jonesville, VA and Sabrina Adkins ("Bo") of Franklin, NC; sisters, Pamela, Bonnie and Mary Ann; grandchildren, Miranda, K.C., Vanesa, James Jr., Austin, Oliver, Justin, Jordan and Mark; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 5:00-7:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. Please bring your stories to share with the family.
He requested cremation.
