John Davis, Sr. Obituary
Dalzell, SC John T. Davis, Sr., age 91, died on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 at his home.
Born in Goodway, AL, on March 16th, 1933, he was the son of the late Ed J. Davis and Gladys C. McBride Davis. He served 10 years in the U.S. Army and later retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of total service. He served as a deacon of Shaw Heights Baptist Church and was a member of Gideons International.
Brother John Davis was a Freemason and member of the Hillcrest Lodge No. 397. As a Master Mason he served as Worshipful Master 1974, was a member of the SC Lodge of Research, the Sumter York Rite bodies, the Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation, Eminent Commander of SC Commandery No. 20 Knights Temple and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. He was Right Eminent Grand Commander of The Knights Templar of SC 01-02, KYGCH, Knight Commander of the Temple (KCT)-a member of the Palmetto York Rite College No. 70 (Knight of York), Associate Regent (receiving The Order of the Purple Cross of The College of North America for Meritorious Service to York Rite Masonry), and the All Saints Conclave of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Sumter Scottish Rite Club, the Scottish Rite Research Society 09627563; a Sovereign Master of the Sumter, SC Allied Masonic Degrees, Knight of The Red Branch of Eri and appendant bodies, SC Council of Knight Masons No. 188 USA, SC College Societas Rossicruciana in Civitatibus Foederatis (Rosicrucians), The Royal Order of Scotland, Knight of Pythias (Sumter), Order of Amaranth (Swan Lake Court No. 24), Order of the Eastern Star (Hillcrest Chapter No. 263), The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 3034 (Sumter), and the Son of a Confederate Veteran.
Survivors are: Two sons, John T. Davis, Jr. and his wife Laura of Dalzell, SC, and Eric J. Davis and his wife Cynthia of Live Oak, FL; One sister, Geneva Ann Jordan Davis of Milton, FL; Five grandchildren; Five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; special "family" members, Cissy Hutcherson and her children BB & AJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Willie F. Lawrence Davis, and three brothers, Ed J. Davis, Jr., Buford Edwin Davis, and Sherwood Davis; and a sister, Dorothy Parker.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at 1:00pm, at Shaw Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob White officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00pm, Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at Shaw Heights Baptist Church.

I have only heard SK John´s name from members of Amaranth, but by all reports, he was wonderful. In reading his memorial, I know each of you are very proud of his military background as well as his Masonic. My prayers are with each of you during this time and in the future.
