John D. "Jack" DeFries, age 89, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice Home on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, with his loving family at his side. Survived by his daughter Gayle (Mike) Carroll, grandchildren Allison (Matt) Butin, Sean (Jenna) Carroll, Eric (Jackie) Carroll, Nicholas DeFries and Rachel DeFries, daughter-in-law Kathy (Matt McGiles) DeFries, his step-grandchildren Taylor McGiles, and Emilyee McGiles, great grandchildren Aria, Zoe, Raelyn, and Fia and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents John and Ann DeFries, his wife Jean (nee Wesselhoff, 2016) DeFries, his son Keith DeFries (2005), two brothers and one sister. Jack served his country with the United States Army during Korean Conflict. He worked for and retired from Mailwell formerly known as Heco where he was a successful envelope salesman. Jack attended Mission Bible Church in Minooka and was an avid Chicago sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching hockey. He also enjoyed crosswords and game shows, particularly Jeopardy, but what brought Jack most joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and family. Jack had a deep devotion to God, family and country, a quick-witted soul who could always make you laugh. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 9:30am – 11:30am at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place the same day at 11:30am also at the funeral home. Inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 would be most appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S.
