With hearts heavy yet full of gratitude for the time we had, we announce the passing of John Wayne DeGarmo, age 21, of Mineola, Texas, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Tyler. Though his time here was far too short, John packed a whole lot of life—and love—into his 21 years.

Born on May 18, 2004, in Gainesville, Texas, to Lorie Ann (Kelley) and James Robert DeGarmo, John was a true Texas original. Raised with country roots and a heart wide open to everyone he met, he was the kind of man who never met a stranger. His infectious spirit, warm smile, and big laugh made him the "life of the party" wherever he went.

John worked hard in the oil industry as a Tubing Test Helper for X-Torc Energy Services, but his true passion was life itself—especially the time he spent outdoors and with the people he loved most. Whether it was hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, or just sitting around a fire with family and friends, John found joy in the simple things and shared that joy freely. He was, through and through, the very definition of a Country Boy—rugged, kind-hearted, loyal, and always ready with a joke or a helping hand.

Those who knew John knew his stubborn streak was as strong as his loyalty—and often just as endearing. His family loved him for it. That fierce determination came with a heart of gold and a deep love for his wife, his people, and his faith. He and his beloved Emily attended the Sit 'em Down Cowboy Church in Big Sandy, building their life together on faith, love, and laughter.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lodes and Jane Sherrin, Donald Dailey, and Terri DeGarmo whose memory he carried with him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Surviving him are his cherished wife, Emily; his mother, Lorie, and her husband Lonie Workman; his father, James, and his wife Monica DeGarmo; his siblings Alan and wife Amy Workman, Tera and husband TJ Tunink, James DeGarmo, Jr., Bryson Myers, Rebel and Ryatt DeGarmo , Madison and Jonah McFadin. Also surviving are grandparents Joe Laird, Jack DeGarmo, Eavielee and husband Todd Dobsch; in-laws Katie and Teddy Graham; grandparents Bill and Debbie Hawkins and Melody Brown; uncles and aunts Steve DeGarmo, Matsy DeGarmo, Charles and his wife Mary Laird, Brenda and husband Wes Horn, and Lisa and husband Justin Wood, Joe and Melissa Workman, Billy and Mary Workman, Enda and Chris Lowe, Lee and Irene Ruckman, Brenda Workman; more cousins, and extended family than can be counted; and his partner in crime, best friend and cousin Joey Workman.

John touched so many lives with his kindness, humor, and unshakable spirit. The world was simply more fun when he was in it. His presence will be missed more than words can ever say, but the joy he brought and the memories he made will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.

A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 12 Noon, at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home, 1102 E. Goode Street, Quitman, Texas. He will be laid to rest following the service at New Hope Cemetery in Mineola.

In honor of John, we invite you to remember him by living life full throttle—love your people, laugh loud, and never pass up the chance to make someone feel like they belong. That was his way. Let it be ours, too.
