John G. DeMarco, age 86, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away March 2, 2026, in Ebeid Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Sylvania. John was born on May 13, 1939, in New York, New York to John V. and Helena (Gregory) DeMarco. A 1968 graduate of St. Helena High School in the Bronx, he graduated from Iona College and received his PhD in Chemistry from Fordham University. John was a plant manager for Cytec Corporation until his retirement in 2010. He was a brilliant scientist who invented and patented a chemical to relax the polymer fibers in fabric allowing the creation of wrinkle free clothing. He was a devoted father and husband and a diligent and unwavering Catholic.
Surviving are his wife Sharon Hayes, children, John (Elizabeth) DeMarco, Andrew DeMarco, Jennifer (Brian) McGuckin, Mary Kneller and Angela (Andrew) Spurling, daughter in law Lynn DeMarco, sister Phyllis DeMarco, and his sister-in-law Bonnie DeMarco. Also surviving are five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Frances DeMarco, son Kenneth DeMarco, and his brother Joseph DeMarco.
Friends and family may gather Friday February 6, 2026, in Little Flower Catholic Church 5522 Dorr St. Toledo, Ohio 43615 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Sylvania, Ohio. Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home Toledo, Ohio 419-475-5055 is assisting the family.
