John T. Doughten Jr. May 11, 1952 – June 29, 2025 With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John T. Doughten Jr., who left this world on June 29, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on May 11, 1952, John lived a life marked by grit, generosity, and a deep love for his family. John served as a police officer in his early years, later working in construction where his hands built more than just stuff-they built a legacy. A thrill-seeker at heart, he also chased his dreams on the racetrack as a race car driver. But no title or job ever meant more to him than being "Dad." To his children, he was a rock. A hero. The kind of father every child dreams of having. John had a heart bigger than most-a true giver who never held back when someone needed help. If you were lucky enough to be loved by him, you knew it without question. Even when life took its toll, John gave every last bit of himself to those he loved. He was strong, loyal, funny, protective, and full of life-an all-around great man.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Doughten; his son, Troy Doughten; his parents, Mary and John Doughten; and his sisters, Kathy Buhle and Karen Shrum. No doubt they welcomed him into Heaven with open arms and an overdue hug.
He is survived by his daughter Brittany Lawson and husband Tanner Lawson, and granddaughter Iris Lawson; daughter Tiffany Pippen and husband Glyn, along with grandkids Randy Adkison, Star Green and husband Conner, and Sky Herring and husband Caleb, with great-grandchildren Tatum, Teegan, and Tinsley Herring; and his son John Doughten and wife Denise, along with grandkids Corey Doughten and wife Hannah, and great-grandchildren Conner, Camille, and Johnathan Doughten, and Dustin Heard and wife Ashleigh. He is also survived by his brother Pat Doughten and sister Lyn Doughten, who will carry forward his stories and spirit.
The world is a little dimmer without John's light here on Earth, but Heaven is shining a little brighter. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace-raising a little Cain with his loved ones above and watching over all of us with that same fierce love and loyalty that defined his time here.
