John D. Dunn, Jr., 90, of Olton, formerly of Tulia, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia, Texas with Guy Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia prior to the service.
John was born on January 12, 1934 in Canton, Texas to John Duran and Ola Mae (Thompson) Dunn Sr. He graduated from Canton High School and went on to bravely serve in the Marine Corps in 1951, where he demonstrated his dedication and commitment to his country. After being honorably discharged, he met the love of his life, Wilma Wilkerson, and the couple tied the knot on December 8, 1952, in Cotton Center, Texas. Their marriage of 63 years was a testament to the strength of their bond and the love they shared.
John was known for his strong work ethic, having worked tirelessly to achieve everything he had in life. John eventually purchased his own land and farmed with his business partner Dr. Childress for 45 years, which they named "Childress & Dunn". He was a regular attendee of the First Baptist Church in Tulia, Texas, where he found solace and community.
In addition to his dedication to his family and work, John was a compassionate soul who dedicated his time to volunteering for Meals on Wheels, spreading kindness and support to those in need. His selfless nature and willingness to give back to his community will always be remembered by those who knew him. John left behind a legacy of hard work, love, and service that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents; John and Ola Dunn, Sr., his wife; Wilma Lee Dunn, son; Johnny Dunn, and sister; Lillie Mae Warren.
John is survived by his daughter; Debbie Cox and husband Ricky of Bixby, Oklahoma, sons; David Dunn and wife Sheila of Tulia, Donald Dunn and wife Brenda of Waxahachie, brother; David Dewayne Dunn of Temple, sister; Annie Lee Melton of Longview, eight grandchildren; Corey Dunn and wife Tori of Tulia, R. Brett Dunn and wife Samantha of Tulia, Bryan Dunn and wife Averi of Canyon, Casandra Carrillo and husband Todd of Lubbock, Brandon Cox and wife Mandy of Jenks, Oklahoma, Stephanie Woodward of Waxahachie, Matthew Dunn and wife Mariana of Palmer, Austin Dunn and wife Megan of Nazareth, twenty- five loving great-grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
