John Franklin Earwood Sr., age 81, of Fairview, NC, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born in Mills River, NC, the son of the late Donald J. and Edith Allison Earwood. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James "Jim" Earwood.
John proudly served his country for 23 years-eight years in the United States Navy and fifteen years in the United States Coast Guard-achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). During his distinguished career, he exemplified leadership, dedication, and service to his country. He was a proud member of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) and the Portsmouth, Virginia Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Jean Rary Earwood; his son, John F. Earwood Jr. (Teresa); his daughter, Jeanne Gillespie (Keith); grandchildren, John Tyler Earwood (Kylie), David Gillespie (Sarah), and Jaime Gillespie; his great-granddaughter, Kate Gillespie; his sisters-in-law, Irene Earwood, and Jewell "Judy" Wall; along with many nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his faith, and his lifelong commitment to service. His legacy of honor and love will continue through all who knew him. He loved spending time with his family and would do anything to put a smile on someone's face. He was known and will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and love for all of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services to honor his life will be held on Saturday November 1, 2025, at Nesbitts Chapel at 12 Nesbitt Chapel Rd Fairview, NC. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with services to follow at 3:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Reverend Donald Earwood and Reverend Eric McAbee.
