John J. "Jack" Eckenrod, 87, of Moon Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025 in Asbury Heights.
Jack was born on May 31, 1937 in Latrobe, a son of the late James and Grace Marshall Eckenrod.
Jack was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Latrobe.
Mr. Eckenrod was a 1955 graduate of Latrobe High School and received his Masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh in metallurgical engineering. Jack was a very proud graduate of Latrobe High School. He enjoyed the community and the friendship he had built in school. Throughout his years, Jack attended all of his school reunions.
Jack retired from Crucible Research as a research engineer. Jack and his wife, Libby began traveling more. The two loved going all over the country they specially enjoyed Nags Head, North Carolina and Mississippi Queen cruises.
Living so close to the airport, Jack loved watching all the airplanes fly over his home. Jack also had a special love for animals. He may have never had a pet of his own, but he adopted everyone's in the neighborhood.
The true love of his life was his high school sweetheart, Libby. They often would catch shows at the CLO or plays at the Cultural District. Whatever they were doing, as long as they were together they were happy.
Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Libby" R. Aiken Eckenrod, siblings, Linda (Bill) Watson, niece, Rhonda (Randy) Lauff, great nieces, Casey (Mat) Deveaney and Brittany (Collin) Lauff, great great nephew, Tucker Deveaney and great great niece, Tessa Deveaney.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800). A Service will be held following the visitation at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be held privately at Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
