John C. "Jack" Edwards, 87, of Chesterton, died Thursday, May 1, 2025, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Hammond to the late Everett and Genevieve (Dinel) Edwards. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 during the Korean War era and enjoyed spending time with fellow veterans at the American Legion. On Oct. 24, 1997, he married his longtime companion, Maxine Evans, in Valparaiso. They recently celebrated 27 years of marriage. Jack is survived by his wife, Maxine Edwards of Chesterton; two daughters, Deanna (Michael) Gaines of Fort Payne, Ala., and Marianne (Mike) Benac of Osceola; three grandchildren, Chad Miller, Kristen Miller and Brandon (Morgan) Benac; and two great-grandchildren, Jade and Brylee. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Selby, in 2019. Jack worked as the human resources director at Bethlehem Steel, retiring after 37 years. In retirement, he embraced many hobbies. He was a devoted Notre Dame football fan and longtime season ticket holder. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and collecting football and baseball cards, coins, antiques, stamps, NASCAR die-cast models and first-edition comic books. In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held. The family invites you to remember Jack with kindness in your daily lives.
