John C. Emerson

Mr. John C. Emerson age 85, of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday May 13, 2015 at the Spring Creek Health Care, in Murray, Kentucky. He was a member of the Cherry Corner Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon; he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army; he was retired from Sears as the manager of the Murray, Kentucky store where he was transferred to in 1967; he was a Kentucky Colonel; he was a member of the Civitans and Civitans International; he enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens Center and the road trips with the R.O.M.E.O's; he was an avid Kentucky Basketball Fan and Nascar Racing Fan. He was born in Ripley, Tennessee on July 3, 1929 to the late John D. and Myrna McGarrity Emerson. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife Rowena Helen Pelkey Emerson; one sister, Viva Herndon. John is survived by one daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Emerson of Murray, Kentucky; two nephews, Joe Herndon of Durant Oklahoma and Mark Herndon of Dallas, Texas; several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in the chapel of the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Pastor Eric Kelleher and Bro. Sean Hayes will officiate with entombment to follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 – 8:00 on Monday, May 18, 2015.
