John Ervin Obituary

John Ervin, Jr. CHARLESTON - John Witherspoon Ervin, Jr. (50) , of Charleston, SC, was called into the arms of our Lord on January 6, 2024. "John - John" was the cherished son of the late JoAnn Mitchell Ervin and John Witherspoon Ervin. John was born in Savannah, GA on March 9, 1973. John grew up in Pawley's Island, SC, and was a graduate of Georgetown High School. John went on to receive his Bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina. The legacy of John's love will be carried on by his father, John Ervin, his sister, Joslyn Ervin Otis, and his beloved nephews, Bonner Otis and Orence Mahr-Batuz and beloved niece, Mitchell Otis. John was a shining light of unwavering goodness, with genuine devotion and unconditional love, for all who knew him. He truly loved his family and his friends, above all else. He enjoyed traveling, and was always excited for his next destination. John pursued a career in the film industry, upon graduating from college. He enjoyed working on several major films, in cities across the country. In 2009, John took an entirely new position, which lead him to living abroad for the next 12 years. John was hired as the head of Neptune Pacific's operations, a South Pacific logistics and shipping arm of Fiji Water Co. John lived in Suva, Fiji for many years. Continuing his career with Neptune Pacific, he eventually moved to Auckland, New Zealand. His overseas family was large, and meant so very much to him. A recent sentiment from his closest friend in Auckland, "John left a large part of his kind soul, in this part of the world". There are so many here, and abroad, that join us in mourning the death of our beloved John. John was taken too soon, and undoubtably, will forever be missed. While our Mom is celebrating the arrival of her son in Heaven, we find peace in knowing that we will all be reunited, once again. John's legacy of compassion and devotion, and his loving nature, will be etched in our hearts forever. I love you, sweet brother- Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, honoring John. Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am, Indiantown Presbyterian Church, Hemingway SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the MUSC Foundation. www.giving.musc.edu - please specify Neurology and Neurosurgery department, and notate "In memory of John W. Ervin, Jr. fund". Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Morris Funeral Home, Hemingway SC.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of John´s passing. John was such a gentle, kind-hearted person, he had a smile for everyone, was quick to see the funny side of things and I enjoyed his sense of humour.
I worked with John at Neptune Pacific Line in Auckland. He was my boss. I enjoyed working with him. I´d always go into his office just to annoy him, nuhhh, to discuss work, but it was funny, we´d usually end up chitty chatting and cracking up laughing over the funny things he would be looking at on google. John was a good story-teller and I loved listening to all his stories.
John will always be in my memories when I look back at the good old days and the fun times we had at Neptune Pacific Line. My deepest condolences to John´s family, my thoughts are with you. Rest in peace John.

I am so sad to hear this news. Joh-John was a lovely, charismatic young man. He was loved by everyone. I remember him as a teenager into his twenties...he literally smiled all the time. I am so very sorry John, Joslyn and Jody. I am sending love.

So many fun memories and stories come to mind when I think about John! When I saw his funeral was going to be in Hemingway I immediately thought of the many great times we had at the farm in that old cabin, stories that I could tell for days... I am so sorry to hear about his untimely passing. I will be praying for you big John and Joslyn and family.

John picked me up hitchhiking home from college orientation and we discovered we lived in the same apartments. His decision to pull over and pick up the long haired guy with his thumb up was the start of a friendship for life. John was a unique and funny guy who always brightened the room. I already miss you brother and will meet you at the lifestone one day.

I was a Patient Care Tech that took care of John within the last several months. Without a doubt he was one of the kindest souls I´ve ever met. He never failed to make me smile, laugh, and he always encouraged me with my nursing school studies. John is a patient I will never forget. He showed me what strength and the will to never give up truly was.

One memory I will never forget was him making me move a huge couch, with no wheels, for his loved ones to come sit on when they visited him. I always gave him a hard time after that since he did not believe me the couch did not have wheels. I will also never forget his love for orange popsicles and protein shakes his family would bring him.

The amount of love that surrounded him was beyond amazing. To John, his family, and friends, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you all an overwhelming amount of love peace during this period. May God be with y´all during this hard time.
