John S. Esposito, Sr.
age 97, formerly of Bronx, New York passed away on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023. He was born on May 17th, 1925 to the late Michael and Mary Esposito. John is survived by his wife Helen, son John Esposito, Jr. (Lisa) and daughter Linda Lorenz (Michael). He leaves behind 4 grandchildren, Michael Esposito, Melissa Esposito, Amanda Lorenz and Eric Lorenz and a great grandson, Callan Palm. John was a WWII Navy Seabee Veteran. He saw action on Guadalcanal and Bougainville Islands. The Seabee Motto is "We build, We fight", The Seabees, while on the islands, built the way for the Marines. He contributed his military experience in a book called "A Salute to our Veterans" Vignettes of the "Can Do" Navy Seabees 1942-2007, Written by Irene J. Dumas. He was a member of the Marine Corp League in New York and after relocating to the Pittsburgh area with his wife Helen, he joined the Forbes Trail Detachment 797 Marine Corp League in Monroeville, PA. He was also a member of the VFW in Suffern, New York. After the war, he graduated from technical school in Jersey City, New Jersey and opened his own business as a TV repairman, where he met his wife Helen. They were married on January 24th, 1959. At the age of 36, he started a career as a technician with Channel 7 WABC, Wide World of Sports where he traveled the U.S working with sporting events like The Olympics, Kentucky Derby, Indianapolis 500. His most cherished events were the inauguration of President J. F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra in concert at the Felt Forum in NY. He had 30 years of service at WABC. John also served as head usher at St. Joseph Church in Spring Valley, New York for almost 60 years. Friends will be received Thursday 3-7 PM at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. 118 Shaw Ave., Turtle Creek (412-823-1950). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. Colman Church Friday, 11 AM. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 2001 Ardmore Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15221 in memory of John.
