John E. Faugno, passed away on August 17, 2024 at the age of 85.
Born in Jersey City, John was one of three children born to Anthony and Christine Faugno. He married Judith Wyckoff in 1960 and the couple settled in Bogota where they would raise their family. John began his journey of service in the U.S. Army Military Police during the Korean War era, where he was stationed in Korea. His time in the military instilled in him a profound sense of duty and discipline, which he carried forward into his civilian career.
John began his distinguished career with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where he served with honor and dedication, retiring as a Sergeant after 20 years of service. His keen investigative skills and relentless pursuit of justice led him to subsequently become a respected homicide detective for Bergen and Hudson counties.
After retiring from law enforcement, John and Judith moved to Crystal Springs in Hamburg, NJ. He quickly realized he wasn't ready to stop working and soon after found enjoyment in working at a local car dealership and later offering his skills as a handyman. Whether fixing a leaky faucet or lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, he was always there, earning the title of "Mr. Fix-It".
Beyond his professional achievements, John was equally dedicated to his family. He took immense pride in providing for his loved ones and found great joy in being a constant, supportive presence in their lives.
John is lovingly survived by his wife, Judith; his daughter, Chrisanne McGarvey and her husband Michael; his son, David Faugno and his wife Raquel; and his grandchildren, Nicolaus, Christyne, Francesca, Illeana and Alexander. John was predeceased by his son John in 2015.
Visiting hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on August 21 at Scanlan's, Pompton Plains. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on August 22 at 9:30 am at Cedar Crest Chapel, Pompton Plains. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
