COHOES - John L. Flannery, 67, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Samaritan Hospital.
Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late John R. Flannery and Patricia Markos Flannery. John was a lifelong resident of the city. He was educated in Cohoes schools, graduated from CHS in 1976 and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Navy. He was primarily stationed at the Coronado, CA Navy Base during his time in the service, but travelled all through the Marshall Islands and earned the Navy Humanitarian Service Medal.
A mechanic by trade, John had a lifelong passion for cars. He and Bill Mero owned and operated CDT Automotive in Cohoes for over 30 years. He was a huge NASCAR fan, enjoyed dirt racing and going to the Malta Speedway. He also was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting.
John's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. He was always there for them, especially his kids. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Donna Desautels Flannery; by his beloved children, Timothy Flannery, Michelle Gagliardi (Adam) and Brittany Flannery; by his siblings, Kathy Mero, Joseph Flannery (Gale), Lisa Dessingue (Mike) and Michael Flannery; by his adored grandchildren, Timothy (Destiny), Kailyn, John, Jacob, Gabriel and Caleb; as well as his great-granddaughter, Novalee. He is also survived by his aunt, Nancy Lambert; his cousin, Nadine Walsh; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John's family Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes.
