John Gardner, age 79 of Barneveld, passed away on Tuesday August 27, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital with his family beside him. John was born on January 22, 1945, in Dodgeville, the son of Roy and Violet (Hampton) Gardner.
John attended Dodgeville High School. On November 12, 1966, John married Kathy Groom at Ss. Mary & Paul Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Together they had 3 children.
John worked a variety of jobs throughout his years from truck driving to Iowa County dispatcher and most recently retiring from the House On the Rock Resort in 2011.
John enjoyed hunting, camping, watching the Packers, and spending time with his family.
John is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Violet Gardner; sister Barb Renz; brother Gerald (Carolyn) Gardner; mother- and father-in-law Leslie and Viola Groom; and brothers-in-law Doug Groom and Edwin "Corny" James.
John is survived by his wife Kathy of 57 years; their children: John (Amanda) Gardner, James (Sandy) Gardner, and ViAnn (Ryan) Lampman; his grandchildren: Jessica (Andy) Bunkoske, Devin (Tamika) Gardner, Jacob Gardner, Joseph Gardner, and Sophie Lampman. John is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Lane, Kyrie, Eli, and Isla; sister Judy James, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Per John's request there will be no public services held. He will be laid to rest privately in Eastside Cemetery, Dodgeville. The Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com
