John Garvey Obituary
Joe was a retired principal at Oscar Mayer Upper Grade School and Forman High School. He was a Loyola University, DePaul University, and Nova Southern University graduate. Joe was a volunteer for many years at Saint Paul of the Cross as a bereavement minister and grief share coordinator as well as Avenues to Independence.
Wake Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068.
Funeral Friday, October 25, 2024, 9:00 a.m. from Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, to Saint Paul of the Cross, 320 S. Washington Street, Park Ridge, IL 60068 for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, Des Plaines, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Avenues to Independence, 515 Busse Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068 or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

He was a very good principal at Foreman. He was well liked. I did not know he was only two years older than me. His first wife was elegant and very well liked. Prayers for his family and heavenly days from all of us who were teachers when Garvey was our principal Sandralee Rahn Nordquist

Dr. Garvey was my principal at Oscar Mayer. I have two fond memories of him. I remember when he saw me in the hall way and offered me condolences when my dad died. I was 7 years old at the time (1979) my father passed and I remember crying in the moment. My second memory is kind of a funny one, I remember staying up late and watching Nightline and then saw Dr. Garvey being interviewed by Ted Koppel because of the teacher strike in the early 80´s. When I told him I saw him on TV he asked me if I watched the Johnny Carson show. I was in third grade. He must of been assessing how late I stayed up on school nights. I am currently a 20 year veteran CPS School Social Worker.
