He was born on July 17, 1943, in Canton, Illinois, to Carl and Alwilda (Murphy) Gaskill. John married Sara Zehr on March 12, 2022, in East Peoria.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Gaskill of East Peoria; daughter, Chris Nolan; son, John Gaskill; grandchildren, Paige (Zach) Greer and Seth Nolan; great-grandchildren, Bentlee, Avalynn, Olivia, Emerson and Weston; sister, Jane (Ken) Dye and sisters-in-law, Susan (Raymond) Heath and Joanna Rendleman.
John retired as an account from Caterpillar after nearly 40 years of employment. Once retired, he worked at the Groveland Water District.
John enjoyed wood working and spending time with his great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church in Pekin. Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be held at Roberts Cemetery in Morton at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church in Pekin.
