John Thomas Gassman

John Thomas Gassman died on November 29 at his home.
John was born on May 27, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska to Thelma (Koppang) and Clarence Gassman. After the death of his mother, he was blessed with a stepmother, Ona Gassman.
John attended parochial elementary and high schools in Omaha. He began his engineering curricula at San Diego State University and completed his degree at the University of Nebraska. He spent the majority of his career at Black & Veatch in Kansas City. He became a Partner in the firm in 1985 and retired as an Executive Vice President in 2000. He initiated the Construction Services Department at Black & Veatch which ended up being the largest department in the firm.
John was an avid sailor who served in the US Coast Guard. He also captained many vessels on the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Lake Perry and Lake Stockton. He achieved the rank of Commodore of the Royal BVI Yacht Club.
John is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Kramer, and sister-in-law Sandy Gassman.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna, of the home; children Andrea of Jefferson City, MO; Brad (Jennifer) of Denver, CO; and Carmen of San Juan Capistrano, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cole Gassman and Madelyn Nasers.
Also left to grieve his passing are siblings Peggy (Pat) O'Malley of Omaha, NE; Susie (Danny) Kahan of Tulsa, OK; Pete (Kathy) Gassman of Omaha, NE; and Nick Gassman of Chanhassan, MN.
