John Geerlings

GEERLINGS, John USN passed away in Dunedin, FL on August 30, 2021. Born in Holland, MI, on November 22, 1926. He graduated from Holland High School in 1945. John enlisted in the United States Navy, and served on the USS Howorth, DD-592, 1944-1946. John married Barbara Bilsborrow Geerlings, in Grand Rapids, MI, on December 1, 1951. They were happily married for sixty-eight years, until her passing in February 2020. Together, they raised three daughters in Grand Rapids, Lansing, andKalamazoo, MI. John is survived by his daughters, Louanne G. (James) Reed, Battle Creek, MI; Patricia M. Garcia (Dennis Dahlmann), Ann Arbor, MI, and Sanibel, FL; Janice S. Shermetaro (Tad Weaver), Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Monica Reed, Bronson (Ashley) Reed, Jeana (Corey) Zirlin, Kaeli Garcia, Maija Garcia, Anne Marie (Bryant) Blair, John (Marybeth) Shermetaro, Marty (Piper) Shermetaro; and great-grandchildren, Elena Garcia-Schroeder, Brantley Blair, Adler Zirlin, Aston Zirlin, Calliope Shermetaro, and Lena Shermetaro. John is also survived by his older brother, Harris Geerlings of Jacksonville, FL, and many, much-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, his parents, John and Clara Geerlings, and his sisters, Dorothy Kamps and Pauline Hiddinga. Curlew Hills Funeral Home
