John Georgatsos, a beloved and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Park Ridge, Illinois, at the age of 92. Born on July 2, 1933, in Paradisia, Greece, John's life was a rich tapestry woven with joy, love, and an unwavering commitment to family.
John dedicated his life to the restaurant business, where he not only showcased his culinary passion but also forged countless friendships within the community. His very happy disposition and sociable nature brought warmth to every interaction, whether he was serving patrons or hosting gatherings filled with laughter and love.
John’s greatest pride was his family. He was married for 58 wonderful years to his wife, Kalitsa, nee Xepapadeas, and together they embraced life with a spirit of joy and celebration. He was a devoted father to his children, Demetri (Cathie) and Eleni (Peter) Vasilopoulos. His grandchildren, Niko, Kelli and Alex Vasilopoulos and Tori and Demi Georgatsos, were the light of his life, and he cherished the moments spent swimming with them in Kardamili, Greece, where he and Kalitsa owned a summer home. Those summers were filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories, as John made it a point to pass on his love for Kardamili and family traditions. John was also a proud uncle and great uncle too many.
A man of diverse interests, John's hobbies included dancing and hosting lively parties, particularly during Easter, a holiday he celebrated with great zeal. He enjoyed playing Koun Kon and Tavli with friends, always fostering camaraderie through these beloved pastimes. A sports enthusiast at heart, John found joy in cheering for his favorite teams, sharing those moments with family and friends.
John was also an early member of the Holy Taxiarhai & St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, where he demonstrated an enduring commitment to the church’s growth and development. His faith and service to the community were truly inspiring, and he often led by example, encouraging others to contribute their time and talents.
He is reunited in peace with his beloved parents, Demetrios Georgatsos and Eleni Georgatsos, nee Kyriakopoulos, as well as his siblings, Christina, George, Bea, Antoni, Niki, and Fotis, who await him in eternal rest.
