John David Gerth

My deepest condolences to John's family. John and I were close friends in high school. I have so many good memories of our adventures together. I spent many hours helping him bale hay on the family farm, leaping out of the barn when a bale came up the elevator full of angry hornets. John was into fast cars from the early days. He was so proud of the 1968 blue corvette he bought around 1970 or 71 and we spent many hours tooling around Rockville in it. We would take it to the Indy 500 time trials in May and since John spent time growing up in Indy he knew all the back roads around the speedway and would park in a secluded spot within feet of the main entrance. He was a good friend, and was my Best Man at my wedding in 1973. I will always remember John as a mature, sincere and honest young man and I am sure he carried those traits throughout his adult life. I will cherish the many good memories I have of John. My prayers are with the family in this difficult time.
