John Hailer Gibbon of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025 at age 81.
John was born on November 27, 1943 in Cleveland. A proud graduate of Oberlin College, John received degrees in both history and cello performance. John had a long and distinguished career as a partner at the law firm of Walter & Haverfield. He served as Law Director for the City of Cleveland Heights for 28 years, as well as on the boards of a number of not-for-profit organizations. John also served in the Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa for two years with his wife, Pam.
Throughout his life, John enthusiastically pursued many interests, including woodworking, sailing, and spending time outdoors. As a passionate cellist since the age of 8, John studied and performed on the instrument throughout his life.
John was the beloved husband of Pamela; father of Jeffery (Elicia), Andrew (Ashley), and Timothy (Andrea); and grandfather of Daniel, Isabella, Lucy, Jack, Rose, and Graham.
A Private service was held by the family.
Donations in John's memory may be to The Music Settlement or the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland.
