I first met Mr. Gillett when I was 11 years old at my first Troop 828 meeting at Havenwood Presbyterian Church. He will always be Mr. Gillett to me because we did so many Scout trips with the troop together when I was a boy. Great Smoky Mountains, Unicoi Mountains, Roan Mountain, numerous Appalachian Trail and C&O Canal hikes, several canoe trips on several parts of the Potomac River, Mount Marcy in the Adirondack mountains and many more. Because the Boy Scout Dulaney District advancement chairman was unable to attend at the last minute, Mr. Gillett presided over my Eagle Scout award ceremony. I was truly blessed with having the advantage of two father figures in my life. My own father as primary, and Mr. Gillett as a highly capable backup if I wanted.

We wish to our condolences to the entire Gillett family. It was a privilege to know and work with Jack in the Scouting Program for many years. He was as genuine as they come. Jack had a level of integrity few men achieve. He did things the right way, particularly in Scouting. He set a standard and never deviated from it. He will be missed but his achievements will live on through the Gillett family. Norris and Linda Tingle
