John Gilliam Obituary

John Henry Gilliam "Red" 76, of Greenwood entered through heaven's gates on Monday, January 13, 2025.

He was born to the late Mr. Earl Baylor and Mrs. Carolyn Greene.

John served the Greenwood Community as a dedicated lifeguard for many years at the Seaboard Recreation Center. He retired from Greenwood Mills and was a member of Weston Chapel A.M.E. Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Randall Gilliam.

Leaving to cherish his loving memories are his wife, Alice Elam Gilliam, four sons, Russell (Angela) Gilliam, Reggie Gilliam, Brandon Gilliam and Christopher Williams all of Greenwood; one daughter, Monica Williams, one sister, Mary (Ricky) Gilliam Irving, one brother, Homer (Catherine) Gilliam of Greenwood. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 1-6 P.M. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2025 in the chapel of Parks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evening Star Cemetery.

The family is at the home, 206 Georgia Ave.

Parks Funeral Home is assisting the Gilliam Family.
