John Glass Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Monte Vista on Feb. 19, 2026.
John C. Glass II, a devoted servant of Christ and a pillar of the Monte Vista community, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on February 17, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on May 2, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, to John C. Glass and MaryAnna Gotschall Glass, John's life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and his commitment to service.

John's enduring love story began the day he married Barbara Lee Davis, the love of his life. Their partnership was marked by mutual respect, deep affection, and an unshakeable bond, with Barbara remaining by his side until his last day. The legacy of their love is carried on through their children: Caroline Hedman and her husband Mike of Leander, Texas; Sara Glass of Alamosa, Colorado; and Merilee Glass of Monte Vista, Colorado. John was also a cherished brother to Chuck Glass and his wife Lovvis of Ignacio, Colorado. His life was further enriched by numerous relatives and a multitude of friends, all of whom felt the warmth of his generous spirit.

John's lifelong quest for knowledge led him to earn his Bachelor's Degree, a foundation that informed both his professional and personal pursuits. For over 48 years, John was the respected owner and operator of Valley Monument Company in Monte Vista, where his creativity and craftsmanship honored countless lives with dignity.

His Christian faith was the compass by which he lived. As an active member of the Valley Church of the Nazarene, he embodied the love of Christ through his involvement in men's ministries, touching many lives through his thoughtful and faith-filled guidance. John's passion for helping others extended to his community service as a volunteer firefighter with the Monte Vista Fire Department, a role he embraced until his retirement.

John's younger years were marked by the thrill of motocross and trials bike riding, igniting a lifelong enthusiasm for F1 racing. Creative at heart, he found joy and purpose in restoring and working on cars.

In describing John, one would be remiss not to recognize his creative genius, his faith-filled heart, and his thoughtful nature. His was a life lived with intention, compassion, and grace. John C. Glass II was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose memory will remain a beacon of kindness and love to all who had the good fortune to know him. His unwavering faith and earnest spirit will continue to inspire those he has left behind, as they seek to honor his remarkable journey on Earth.

Visitations will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2026 at the Rogers Family Mortuary, 404 Morris Street, in Monte Vista, and Saturday morning, February 21st 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m., both at the Valley Church of the Nazarene. My most heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with Babs (Barbara) and the family. John, Babs and I were all at Durango High and Ft. Lewis College together and those were truly the "good old days"- Love from Eddie Jo (Shirk) Nicholson
