JOHN ROLLIN GONYER, 89, of Maidstone, VT, died peacefully at Country Village-Genesis Health Care Center in Lancaster after a period of declining health on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

John was born on May 30, 1936, in Lancaster, NH. He was one of fourteen children born to the late Lawrence and Mildred (Smith) Gonyer.

John started working for Groveton Paper Company in September 1954. In November of 1954, John entered the US Army and served his country until November of 1956, followed by six more years in the Army Reserves.

John returned to work at the mill in late 1956 and worked as a steelworker in the maintenance department until his retirement in May 1998.

John married Waneta (Irving) Gonyer on November 23, 1957, and enjoyed almost 68 years of marriage and raising their children together.

John lived and breathed hunting, and even while he was at the nursing home, he would use his binoculars to scan the field behind his room for wildlife.

John is survived by the love of his life, Waneta (Irving) Gonyer of Maidstone, VT, two sons Randy Gonyer and wife Joan of Milan, and Jonathan "Finn" Gonyer and wife Irene of Groveton, one granddaughter Chelsea Pratt and husband Jonah of Lyndonville, VT, one great-grandson Dylan Gonyer of Lyndonville, VT, four step-grandchildren Dustin Lafoe, Damien Abbey, Shyanne Hayes, and Griffin McKearney, one step-great-grandson Theodore Abbey, one brother Tom Gonyer of Groveton, and one sister Marilyn Cronk of Chicopee, MA, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

He was predeceased by one son, Keith "Moon" Gonyer, on April 5, 1980, five sisters, and six brothers.

At John's request, there will be no services; he will be buried with Keith in the Northumberland Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
