To My Dear Grady Family:
I want to share a story with you I call "The Last Christmas at Mamie´s" around 1956 in Pink Hill, N. C. There was John David, Carroll and I running around playing cowboys and Indians outside in Mamie´s and Granddaddy Howard´s yard. We all three had cowboy hats, BB air rifles and rode the big old gas tanks as our horses. It´s hard to believe now, but we actually ran around shooting BB´s at each other without a care in the world. John David and I both had a hard time keeping up with Carroll, but we tried. It was the best Christmas I can remember as a child and the last time I got to see Carroll alive. His death devastated us all and left us feeling like a piece of us was missing, especially John David. However, "The Last Christmas" gave me the best memories ever of my special day with John David and Carroll that I carry with me always!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all and know that if everyone was as good a person as John David this world would be a much better place to live in! Love you all and my heart is full of sadness with the loss of our beloved John David!

Love You All!!
