John W. Griffith, Jr., age 84, of Hockessin, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Jack, as known to friends and family, was born in Scranton, PA on March 27, 1926, son of the late John and Gladys Griffith. He was a graduate of Lehigh University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was vice-president of TTKA fraternity. Jack also received a Masters degree from the University of Delaware. He finished his career as a Director of Personnel for a national company. Jack served in the Navy in WW II on a destroyer in the Pacific. As an active member in many volunteer groups, Jack held numerous leadership positions. He was also a member of the Welsh Society, The Masonic Lodge and Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. He loved his family, the Yankees, Lehigh, U of D football and his cabin in Poe Mountain. John is survived by his loving wife, of 61 years, Shirley (Robinson) Griffith; his son, John R and wife Ann of Landenberg, PA: his daughter Rebecca Schuck and husband David of Landenberg, PA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday July 24, 2010 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKenna’s Church Road, Wilmington where friends may visit from noon to 1 pm. Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery. Jack had a great love of dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations should be given to the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Rt. 7, Stanton-Christiana Road, Stanton, DE 19804 in memory of John W. Griffith.
