John L. Gruenewald Jr., 73, of Hartford, passed away on January 2, 2025. He was born on January 19, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late John L. Sr. and Marian Gruenewald.
John is survived by his daughters, Tammy West (David) and Jamie Klecha (Greg); grandchildren, Madison, Jack, and McKenzie; brothers, Jim and Joe Gruenewald; sisters, Jae Eckoldt, Jackie Bochenstein (Bob), Janet Runingen (Al), Joyce Ellis (Tom), and Jill Gouger (Tom); as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patty; brother, Jeff; brother-in-law Eugene Eckoldt; and many cherished pets.
John spent 41 years as a press operator at Master Lock Co., where he was known for his hardworking, kind, and generous nature. His positive impact on those around him will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him. Outside of work, John loved baseball, golf, bowling, and especially spending time with his family and friends. He was also known for his love of baking, sharing his delicious creations with everyone he met and leaving a lasting impression on all who tasted them.
John was affectionately known by many nicknames, including "ZZ," "Greens," and "Grizzly." Whether it was a nickname from his work family, a term of endearment from his loved ones, or a playful moniker from his friends, these names reflected the various sides of John's personality. No matter what name you knew him by, John's spirit was unforgettable and his presence will be dearly missed.
We take comfort in the knowledge that John is now reunited with his beloved wife, Patty, and we will forever cherish the memories, lessons, and love he shared with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday July 26, 2025, at Centennial Park (109 N Main St., Hartford, WI 53027). In keeping with John's wishes, we invite everyone to share their memories and photos, and to smile, laugh, and reminisce as we remember this unforgettable man.
Rest in peace, John. You will be deeply missed.
