John P. (Jack) Haley Freeland, Michigan
John P. (Jack) Haley, age 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born on September 9, 1945, in
Saginaw, Michigan, to Cleo and Thomas Haley, who instilled in him strong values of family, hard work, and faith that guided him throughout his life.
John was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and proud great-grandfather. Above all else, he was a servant of the Lord. A spiritual leader to many, John dedicated his life to God, living his faith through service, humility, and love for others. His steady devotion left a lasting impact on everyone blessed to know him.
A Vietnam Veteran, John proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969 serving on the USS Higbee DD-806, a period of his life marked by dedication and service to his country.
On April 23, 1966, John married the love of his life, Mary Ann Haley, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned decades and was the foundation of a strong and loving family. Together they raised four children, creating a home filled with faith, laughter, and unwavering support.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman who found peace and joy in the outdoors. In his 60s, he discovered a new passion as a runner-an endeavor that not only brought him physical strength and numerous race victories, but also deep friendships and meaningful connections that enriched his later years.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Haley; his loving children, John T. Haley (Beverly), Amy Gilginas (John), Sarah Smolarek (Christopher), and Maggie Haley. He was a proud grandfather to Alaina Maxey (Nick), Andrew Gilginas, Sydney LaBreck (Angelo), Aubrey Gilginas, Kylee Davenport (Michael), Aidan Smolarek, Ellie Smolarek, and Bryce Smolarek.
The pure joy of John's life was found in his great-granddaughters, Alaya Alvarado, Wrynn Maxey, and Mila Alvarado, whose smiles and laughter brought him immeasurable happiness.
John is proceeded in death by his mother, Cleo Haley, father Thomas Haley, sister Helen Michnick, and brother Tom Haley. Where he was greeted by them at the gold gates of Heaven.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate physicians and medical staff at the University of Michigan Hospital, as well as the extraordinary caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice, for their kindness, dedication, and care.
John's legacy of faith, love, perseverance, and service will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Honoring the wishes of John and his family, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty). Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Post 439 and United States Navy. Pastor Phil Ortega and Pastora Tina Ortega will officiate. Friends may visit with the family at the Snow Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make a donation in honor of John's life may consider memorial contributions to wishes of the family.
