Harris, John Grady, 72 of Dayton, Ohio went home to be with his Lord Saturday, September 14, 2024. John was born July 10, 1952 in Somerset, KY to Alfred and Alma “Lucy” Harris. At the age of nine, John accepted Jesus as his Savior two weeks after his father at West Moraine Baptist Church. John met the love of his life, Kathy Lee Jones at a Wednesday evening Bible study at West Moraine Baptist Church in 1970. He graduated from Wilber Wright High School in 1971. John and Kathy were engaged and married in 1973 and enjoyed over 51 years together. They were able to go on a life-long dream vacation to Alaska for their 50th wedding anniversary last year. John started his career path as a manager at Burger Chef and was a volunteer firefighter in Trotwood and Kettering. As he and Kathy started a family together John worked for Reynolds & Reynolds, Inland, GM, Delco, Delphi and Mahle. John had a strong work ethic providing for his family. He was often found serving his church, friends and neighbors. John was a member of First Baptist Church Kettering. His quiet faith and walk with Christ was the source of his strength and a gift to his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathy Ann Harris and Linda Harris; and father and mother-in-law, Marion and Jessie Jones.
John is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Michael and his wife, Michelle; daughter, Angela and her husband, Jonathan Carl; and son, Nathan and his wife, Melissa; grandchildren: Thomas and his wife, Marlen Harris, Haylee Harris, Micah Carl, Luke Harris, Shelby Carl, Johnathan Harris, Grace Carl, Jack Harris, Noah Carl, Ethan Harris, Olivia Carl, Bryan Harris, William Carl, Lydia Harris, and Jessica Harris; and one great-granddaughter, Mariana Harris; and sister-in-law, Judy Meier.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM, Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering Chapel. Family will receive family and friends two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, West Carrollton, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the First Baptist Church Kettering Mission Fund, 3939 Swigart Road, Dayton, Ohio 45440.
