So very sad to hear. John was full of life and I certainly enjoyed his company along with Heidi and the kids, and of course Fireball, on several dive trips in the Bahama chain. Rest in peace my friend.

I met John while working as a cashier at Cutlers Drug Store in Arlington and John of course worked there as a "soda jerk". By the time prom time came around, and our friend Janet, who worked there too. Well Janet told John that I didn´t have a date to the prom. John was very nice and asked me to the prom. We had a great time but the best part was going to Jerrys for a hamburger and milk shake in our prom clothes. So many memories after that, always included me and Janet in some of Johns adventures. One of a kind you are John. God bless you Heidi and John and Heather, through your loss.

How do I know Mr. Hickey? (Mister Hickey as I called John because in a group of people when you called out "John" one forth of the guys would turn around, except for my kin.)
I could say that I first met John at ARC (American Red Cross for the non initiated) as one of the instructors for advanced 1st aid. But the relationship goes a bit deeper. Long before I met John Hickey, he was associated with a bunch of guys involved with amateur radio/red cross/tosrv/ etc, one of which would some day become my husband.
From ARC to volunteering at first aid events heard about a diving cruise out to the Bahamas. So, of course John Hickey was a part of the diving classes at OSU pools as well as John and Heidi hosting the trip. On that cruise my husband and I first became an item; marrying the following year with Heather as flower girl, and Mr. Hickey as best man, along with the aforementioned group.
My kids and Hickey's kids grew up as ski patrol brats at Clear Fork. Of course went diving multiple times with the Hickeys with the last time my son and Hickeys son on the same diving excursion.
From warm evenings on Hickeys deck, to cold beers at the bar at Clear Fork, to diving the clear waters of Grand Cayman Hickey will be forever missed.
