I was so sad to hear of John´s passing. I knew John while my late husband Corky Rogers coached at The Bolles School. Corky & I both loved John. He was kind, funny, dedicated and an inspiration to many. He will be missed by many friends and family. My condolences to all who knew John.

John was so great! A Great man, a great teacher, and friend. It was such a pleasure to be his friend, to coach with him, to watch the young men he taught and coached grow and prosper. Rest assured he is now with Jesus rejoicing in heaven. May you rest in peace John and yes I look forward to joining you and rejoicing with you in Heaven! Rest in peace my friend and yes I look forward to seeing you again! R.I.P.

My name is Stanley Simpson. I graduated Pendleton High School in 1969. I played football for Coach Howard. He worked you hard but he knew how to cut up and get you laughing. Praying for family and loved ones.

My name was Midge Brock. Coach Howard was my teacher and basketball coach at Pendleton High School in1969 and 1970. It was an honor when he and his wife asked me to babysit their firstborn daughter on many occasions. He, always the gentleman, picked me up in his red sports car, came to the door and spoke with my Mother. On another note, he was my basketball coach, and he was tough. At one practice he was making us run bear drills, I felt sick and said Coach I think I am going to throw up. His comment was, "well go throw up and come back and run your bear drills. I have told my children and grandchildren these stories many times. He was an amazing coach and teacher. I´m thankful for the honor to have been taught and coached by him. Prayers for his family.

I graduated from Pendleton High School in 1970. In August , I enrolled at Clemson University. During my orientation/registration, I felt overwhelmed and sat down on a bench and started crying. I felt a hand on my shoulder and a familiar voice asked, "what in the world is wrong?" I told Coach I felt lost and didn´t know where to go. He then escorted me all over campus and made sure I got registered for all my classes. I will never forget his kindness!! I began my teaching career at Pendleton High School in August, 1974 and retired after 34 years. I send my deepest sympathy to his family and thank God for my remembrance of him.
