John Howard Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 4, 2024.
John Patrick Howard passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, surrounded by the great love of his family at the age of 72.
John was born and raised in the Denver metro area and enjoyed his long career working various jobs for the City of Commerce City. He retired with the city after being there 40 years. From maintenance, to a police officer, to developing and running the city's IT department, he did it all. He met and worked with many great people.
John was so proud of his family. He and his wife Barb had been married for 28 wonderful years. Barb meant the world to him. John had a daughter Nicki who recently moved closer to him and he was thrilled to be so close. He also had a step son Andy and step daughter Lacey who he truly enjoyed spending time with. Many of weekends were spent together playing cornhole, sitting on the patio, going to grandkids sporting events and just being together. Something that warmed his heart. He was also very involved in his church where he met and made many amazing friends that he enjoyed gathering with them for outings or a good meal out.
John is survived by his wife Barb, daughter Nicki (Brian) and children Eddie and Jaime, step son Andy (Melissa) and step daughter Lacey (Zach) and children Audrina and Auggie, and sister Frinda Lauer of Oregon.
John will be missed by so many as he touched the heart of anyone he met.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 am at Arvada United Methodist Church. Live streaming of the service is available here and will start promptly at 11:00 a.m. MST. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Arvada Methodist Church with designation to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).

I met John in June of 1995 when I went to work at the City. He touched my life in so many ways. He was a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. He always believed in me and had confidence in me. I can hear him saying, "Amy, I never worry about Public Works" and then he would smile. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." See you again Jedi!

My first memory of John was when he interviewed me for my current position. He always had a smile and I learned a lot from him.

May God bring all of you comfort during your time of grief.

My first memory of John was the big smile and a ponytail! I always enjoyed working with him as he was generous with his knowledge, open to new ideas, shared credit as he was humble and kind, and a great sense of humor! I remember his "Rusty Dozen" list of the 12 city employees with most age & service years and telling me when I´d made the list ;) He set many good examples I´ve since followed and he will not be forgotten.
God bless his family during this time of grief.
