John Hudspeth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home - Preston Road on Dec. 13, 2025.
John Robert "Bob" Hudspeth passed away peacefully at home on December 6, 2025. No joke for the man who loved to entertain with a Dad joke or a groaner of a pun.
Born on July 23, 1938, in Greenville, Texas, Bob grew up in Dallas and graduated from North Dallas High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree at Rice University and a graduate degree from the University of Texas. Serving in the Navy as an officer in San Diego and Asia in the 1960s shaped his courage and perspective.
When Bob moved to New York to work for Citibank, fate quickly intervened. On his first night in Manhattan, he met Frieda on a blind date, beginning a love story that would anchor his life for more than 58 years. Their marriage was filled with adventure, laughter, and deep devotion to family.
Bob's career in banking spanned decades and continents. His work took him and his family overseas for twelve years to the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, where he embraced the cultures and communities around him. Among his proudest achievements was opening the first Citibank branch in Saigon in 1971, a bold act of vision in anticipation of the end of the Vietnam War. In 1978, Bob and his family gave up the ex-pat life and moved back to Dallas where he worked for Bank of America and its predecessors.
A lifelong learner with a quick wit, Bob found joy in languages, opera, Dallas sports teams, and the rich traditions of Asia. He is survived by his wife, Frieda; his daughter, Lauren (Steve); his son, Mark (Alison) and his three grandsons, Carter, Nolan, and John, and many extended family who brought him endless pride and joy.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Haislip Hudspeth and Dorothy Burnett Eaker, and his sister, Margo Pettway.
Bob's warmth, humor, intellectual curiosity, and devotion to those he loved will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be honored by his family in a private service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Meals on Wheels via the Visiting Nurses Association of Texas.

Earlier today

Saddened to learn of Bob´s passing. Maria and I have fond memories of Bob and Freida whom we visited during the Covid pandemic. Bob was a solid citizen and patriot whom we all admired, he will be missed. Also will miss his joke-a-day postings and his sly sense of humor. With our condolences to his family.
