John Fredrick Hughes, 77, resident of Greenwood and loving husband of Cindy Benjamin Hughes, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Latta SC, he was a son of the late Frederick Shuler and Sallie Norton Hughes. A graduate of Latta High School and the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy, John then moved to Greenwood in 1972 to work for Self Memorial Hospital as Pharmacy Director. In addition, he was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Dedicated to his calling as a Pharmacist, John was the recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia in Pharmacy in 1985 and was awarded Pharmacist of the year by the Index Journal for five consecutive years. Of all his accomplishments, John was most proud of his family.

Prayers for all in your loss of John. I knew John in my teens from Self Regional and later as his career continued. He was exceptional and very committed to his profession. I am sure he will be missed by many.
