John C. "Jack" Hynes, 98, of Oil City, PA., passed away Saturday March 16, 2024 at UPMC-Transitional Care in Seneca.
Born March 21, 1925 in Oil City, PA., he was the son of the late John P. and Hazel Lindal Hynes.
Jack was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph High School.
He entered the United States Army and served as a corporal during World War II with the 517TH Artillery.
Jack was married on June 17, 1950 in the Assumption B.V.M. Church to the former Josephine M. Cudzil and she preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 1993.
A lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, he was also a lifetime member of the Oil City Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
In younger years he played baseball for the Crawford Funeral Home and bowled in the merchant league at the K OF C.
Jack worked for Penelec for many years and retired there as Northern Division Supervisor.
He catered many events over the years at the K of C.
He is survived by three children
MaryEllen Hynes of Oil City
Karen Steffes of Ben Avon
John (Mike) Hynes and his wife Lori of Rochester, PA.
Grandchildren
Sarah and Hillary Steffes
Great Grandson
Ari Taherkhan
He is survived by his brother
Francis "Herk" Hynes and his wife Elaine of Edinboro
A sister
Sr. Roseanne Lindal-Hynes OSB of Erie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers James Thomas Hynes and Patrick "Lefty" Hynes and a sister Margaret "Peg" Stubler and a son in law Bill Steffes
Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 6-8 P.M. Friday in Reinsel Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in St. Joseph Church.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Oil City Columbian Home Association 111 Petroleum St. Oil City, PA. or to Catholic Rural Ministry 7 Pulaski St. Oil City, PA. 16301
